NSW Police Force implement campaign to protect registration plates

A campaign by NSW Police Force and the Department of the Attorney-General and Justice to reduce registration plate theft has been implemented in key areas.

The special tamper-resistant screws, available at various local auto stores, are a simple and effective method of reducing the risk of your plates being stolen.

Those areas participating in the campaign can have local police fit these screws for free – at present the Northern Beaches LAC is not included in the campaign.

While residents in the Northern Beaches Local Area Command aren’t as heavily affected by this particular type of crime as other areas, getting tamper-resistant screws are a sensible way of safeguarding your registration plates as the stolen plates are often used to commit other crimes, such as petrol drive-offs, robberies and toll evasion.
